This month sees the release of Batman: Gotham By Gaslight, the latest instalment in Warner Bros.’ series of DC Universe Animated Original Movies, and an adaptation of the classic DC comic book storyline, regarded as the first of the publisher’s ‘Elseworld’ tales.
Well, it seems that Warner Bros. may now be eyeing another, as DC animation legend Bruce Timm spoke to Comic Book at the premiere of Gotham By Gaslight, during which he revealed that the next story he’d like to tackle is Mark Millar’s Superman: Red Son.
Published in 2003, Superman: Red Son takes place in a world where Kal-El’s rocket ship landed in the Soviet Union as opposed the United States, with Superman raised as “the Champion of the common worker who fights a never-ending battle for Stalin, socialism, and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact”.
Last summer, there were rumours that Warner Bros. was developing a live-action adaptation of Superman: Red Son, although there’s been nothing in the way of confirmation from the studio since.
