It’s not often it works, but if you have the church on your side then there’s probably more chance of fan’s prayers being answered, and that’s the case for defunct action fantasy series Warrior Nun, which has just been granted an afterlife in the form of a movie trilogy.
Inspired by the manga-style American comic book series, Warrior Nun followed a group of nuns in a secret sect of the church devoted to battling demons and otherworldly monsters who wanted to build a following to create a dominant religion on the planet.
The second season debuted to positive reviews and fan reactions that made it Netflix’s highest audience-rated season of any Netflix series at the time, before the streaming giants decided to cancel it a month after it premiered.
As is the way with a passionate fanbase, a campaign was launched to save the show, and where many have failed before it, the announcement was made by Warrior Nun‘s Executive Producer, Dave English that this world was being brought back to life as a “trilogy of feature films”.
He said “I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three.”
English continued that while the ongoing strikes meant that there were no details on writers or actors involved in the revival he was able to add “Some may ask, ‘Does this perhaps infer that there’s going to be a universe being launched of Warrior Nun, which could expand into films and TV series following characters that we already know?’ The answer to that question is yes. And there will be more details in the future.”
It’s not yet clear whether the Warrior Nun movies will be released theatrically, as VOD, or on an alternative streaming service.
