From the world of horror to the MCU, Nia DaCosta is about to have a marvellous new project. Deadline is reporting that DaCosta, the filmmaker behind the upcoming Candyman remake, will direct the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel.
Though Disney and Marvel Studios have not made an official comment on it yet, DaCosta is reportedly close to wrapping up the deal. She’ll succeed Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the directors behind the first movie and the team who helped bring Marvel’s first solo female-led film over the billion-dollar mark worldwide.
The industry trade notes that Marvel Studios met with several directors about this, but “DaCosta seemed to have the edge for some time even as she and others met with Marvel chief Kevin Feige over the weekend.”
If and when the deal closes, DaCosta will direct a screenplay penned by Megan McDonnell, a staff writer on WandaVision. Brie Larson will also return to the role she’s played twice now, in her solo film and last year’s smash hit Avengers: Endgame.
