The news is hardly surprising considering the small matter of $1,128,274,794 at the global box-office, and Brie Larson’s multi-picture deal, but Deadline is reporting that the sequel to Captain Marvel is officially in development over at Disney’s Marvel Studios.
A Marvel source has revealed that that Megan McDonnell, who was part of the writing team working on the forthcoming Disney+ MCU series WandaVision, has been tapped up to bring the further adventures of Carol Danvers to the big-screen. This makes sense because there is already a link between the two properties, with the character of Monica Rambeau set to feature in WandaVision.
Brie Larson will return as the titular former fighter-pilot Captain Marvel, who led the MCU into groundbreaking territory as the first female superhero to headline their own instalment in the series.
Captain Marvel 2 is set to debut sometime in 2022 alongside Black Panther II which is set for release on May 6th 2022.
