With filming on Captain Marvel now underway, Marvel Studios has added another villain to the cast of its first female-fronted superhero blockbuster. Deadline is reporting that Gemma Chan (Humans, Transformers: The Last Knight) has been cast as Minn-Erva, the Kree scientist and spy.
Chan joins a cast that includes Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Dr. Walter Lawson/Mar-Vell, and Ben Mendelsohn and DeWanda Wise in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
In the comic books, Minn-Erva (a.k.a. Doctor Minerva) made her first appearance in Captain Marvel #50 in 1977. A geneticist working for the Kree Empire, Minn-Erva possesses powers similar to Carol Danvers as they were both subjected to the Kree’s Psyche-Magnetron.
