Back in May, it was revealed that True Detective helmer Cary Fukunaga had vacated the director’s chair on New Line’s upcoming big screen adaptation of the Stephen King horror classic It, with Andy Muschietti (Mama) subsequently announced as his replacement.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Fukunaga has shared his thoughts on the break-up, which was down to budgetary disputes, and creative differences with regards to casting:
“It’s never easy. Chase [Palmer] and I had been working on that script for probably three years. There was a lot of our childhood and our experience in it. Ultimately, we and New Line have to agree on the kind of movie we want to make, and we just wanted to make different movies. It’s like a relationship: you can try to make the other person who you want them to be, but it’s impossible really to change. You just have to work.”
Next up for Cary Fukunaga is Beasts of No Nation starring Idris Elba, which is set for release in the States on October 16th.
