Deadline is reporting that CBS has given a pilot production commitment to Magnum P.I., a reboot of the classic U.S. television series starring Tom Selleck. Peter Lenkov is overseeing the project, having successfully revived both Hawaii Five-O and MacGyver., and is penning ths cript with Hawaii Five-O co-showrunner Eric Guggenheim.
The site reports that the new series “follows Thomas Magnum, a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. With help from fellow vets Theodore “TC” Calvin and Orville “Rick” Wright, as well as that of disavowed former MI:6 agent Juliet Higgins, Magnum takes on the cases no one else will, helping those who have no one else to turn to.”
Last year, ABC announced that it was developing its own Magnum P.I. sequel from John Rogers (Leverage) and Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives), which woudl have followed Magnum’s daughter Lily ‘Tommy’ Magnum. However, it failed to make it to series.
