THR has revealed that CBS Television Studios is prepping a new TV reboot of the beloved 1995 teen comedy Clueless – one that will put a mystery spin on the franchise in what is being described as “Mean Girls meets Riverdale meets a Lizzo video”.
The potential series will follow “Dionne, Cher’s best friend and lifelong right-hand woman. When Cher disappears, Dionne must take on the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her friend.”
The reboot has been scripted by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey (Will & Grace), with Corinne Brinkerhoff (Jane the Virgin) executive producing along with Robert Lawrence, a producer on the 1995 movie.
Directed by Amy Heckerling, Clueless starred Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz, a rich high schooler who sets out to boost the popularity of a new classmate, played by Brittany Murphy. A hit at the box office, Clueless quickly developed a loyal following, and also spawned a spinoff TV series which ran for three seasons between 1996 and 1999.
