Back in September of last year it was announced that CBS had tapped Jordan Harper (The Mentalist) to develop a TV adaptation of James Ellroy’s L.A. Confidential, and now comes word from Variety that the project has officially received a pilot order.
Described as a modern take on the novel, which was previously adapted for the big screen in 1997, the TV drama will see the lives of three homicide detectives, a female reporter and an up-an-coming actress intersect during the investigation into a sadistic serial killer in the gritty and glamorous 1950’s Los Angeles.

Along with L.A. Confidential, CBS has also granted pilot orders to legal dramas The Code and Main Justice, as well as the Ava DuVernay-executive produced Red Line, a drama which explores the mistaken shooting of a black doctor by a white police officer from the perspective of three families linked to the case.
