During the Television Critics Association press tour, CBS has announced that it has renewed its Big Bang Theory prequel spinoff Young Sheldon for a second season.
The show becomes the first freshman series to secure a season two renewal, and comes on the back of stellar ratings, including a whopping 17.2 million live viewers for its series premiere. The latest episode pulled in 16.17 million viewers, making it the biggest new comedy series, and the second biggest comedy series overall behind The Big Bang Theory.

Young Sheldon stars Iain Armitage as a 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper, with Jim Potts narrating the series as the adult Sheldon, as well as executive producing. Also featuring in the cast are Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord and Annie Potts.
