Channing Tatum looks set to tackle one of the iconic characters from the Universal Monsters catalog, but not in the way you’d expect. Deadline reports that Tatum will star in the film, where he’ll reteam with Phil Lord and Chris Miller in the upcoming genre-bending project.
Sources close to Deadline note that the film is being described as a “modern-day, tongue-in-cheek thriller inspired by Universal’s classic monster legacy.” The trade does not note which iconic Universal Horror character Tatum will star as though. Deadline went on to call Lord, Miller, and Tatum’s take a “bold genre reinvention” of a beloved character from the Monsters Universe.
Reid Carolin came up with the original idea for the still-untitled project and wrote the treatment. Midway writer Wes Tooke will pen the script based on Carolin’s treatment. Lord and Miller will produce for the Lord Miller production banner alongside Tatum, Carolin, and Peter Kiernan. Aditya Sood, president of Lord Miller, will also produce.
Channing Tatum and filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have previously worked together on 2012’s 21 Jump Street and its sequel 22 Jump Street in 2014, along with The LEGO Movie films, where Tatum voiced Superman.
