If the last ten years have told you anything, it’s that Channing Tatum loves the role of Gambit. Even before he got to play a role in this year’s hit superhero comedy Deadpool & Wolverine, Tatum had clamored for this chance, and now that he’s got it, he won’t give it up quickly.
As you’d expect, Tatum is keen for more of this scene-stealing role and hopes to get a solo movie following his debut as the fan favourite X-Men character. During a recent appearance, the actor clarified that he wants this even more than before.
“I sure hope so,” he told Variety at the DGA in West Hollywood. “From your mouth to God’s ears. Write it into existence, my friend. Please.” Tatum was there to celebrate the premiere of his new film, Blink Twice, in which he plays a much different role than fans are used to seeing.
The actor also adds that he’s already spoken to those at Marvel about this second outing. “Of course, I’ve said it. I’ve been saying I want it for the last ten years,” Tatum said. “It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God.”
You can tell Tatum loves this moment as Gambit and is thankful to Ryan Reynolds for making it happen. He wrote on social media, “I will owe him probably forever. Cause I’m not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me. I love ya, buddy.”
