According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fredrik Bond, the director of 2013’s Shia LaBeouf drama Charlie Countryman, has been tapped by Millennium Films to helm London Has Fallen, the sequel to last year’s Olympus Has Fallen, which was directed by Antoine Fuqua.
Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, and Morgan Freeman – who played a Secret Service agent, the U.S. President, and the speaker for the U.S. House of Representatives, respectively – will all reprise their roles for the sequel, which takes the action from the White House to… London. Obviously. The trio are attending the funeral of the British Prime Minister when “all hell breaks loose.” Again.
A Man Apart scribe Christian Gudegast penned the most recent draft of the script for London Has Fallen, with Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt also contributing to the screenplay. Cameras are expected to start rolling in October, with Butler, Alan Siegel, Mark Gill, and Matt O’Toole producing.
Bond’s directorial debut was Charlie Countryman, so he has yet to show what he can do with an action film. He’s been on shortlists for several high-profile projects, including Pirates of the Caribbean 5. Olympus Has Fallen was a decent action film that made a respectable amount of money, but there’s certainly room for improvement. Here’s hoping Bond can up the ante and deliver a better film with the sequel.
London Has Fallen is scheduled to hit theaters on October 2, 2015.
