Charlize Theron is bringing her A-list acting to a new Netflix thriller as Deadline reports the actress has entered “final negotiations” to star in Apex. The film was a ‘high profile’ spec script, penned initially by Jeremy Robbins, and began to pull in some buzz. Baltasar Kormákur is in talks to direct the film as well.
The project is described as Free Solo meets Silence of the Lambs. The plot follows a “rock climber who finds herself being hunted in the wild.” Little else is known about the thriller.
Theron, Dawn Olmstead, Beth Kono, and AJ Dix will produce the project. Kormákur will also produce through his RVK productions if attached. At the time of reporting, there’s no other cast or crew for Apex.
Over the years, Charlize Theron has built quite a relationship with Netflix. She’s starred in The School of Good and Evil, The Old Guard, and its upcoming sequel, The Old Guard 2, for the streamer.
Negotiations are still ongoing, so there’s no set production or release date as yet. Stay tuned to Flickering Myth for more news on Apex.
