Cher’s role in the film is being kept under wraps, but it will mark the Oscar winner’s first big screen appearance since 2010’s Burlesque. Her only other credits since the turn of the millennium include a voice role in 2011’s Zookeeper, and an appearance as herself in the 2003 comedy Stuck on You.
Filming on the Mamma Mia sequel got underway last month, with Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) directing returning stars Meryl Streep, Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, Amanda Seyfried, Dominic Cooper, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard and Colin Firth and new additions Lily James Alexa Davies, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Jeremy Irvine, Josh Dylan, Hugh Skinner and Hugh Skinner.
Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! is set for release in July 2018 and takes place across two time periods to show how forged in the past resonate in the present.
