According to ChinaFilmInside (via The Playlist), Road Pictures have acquired the rights to Tom Tykwer’s 1998 cult classic Run Lola Run, and are developing a Mandarin-language remake of the film.
The site reports that Zhu Zhu (Marco Polo, Cloud Atlas) is set to star and produce the film, which will presumably transport the action from Germany to China.
The original Run Lola Run starred Franka Potente as Lola, a young girl who receives a frantic phone call from her small time criminal boyfriend. He’s just lost a small fortune belonging to his mobster boss, and if Lola can’t replace the money in twenty minutes, he’ll be killed.
The high-octane thriller received the Audience Award at Sundance in 1999 and was also nominated for the BAFTA for Best Film Not in the English Language.
