Deadline is reporting that Chiwetel Ejiofor is in talks to join Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix in Garth Davis’ (Top of the Lake) upcoming Mary Magdalene film, where he’ll portray Peter the Apostle.
The film sees Mara as the titular Mary, in what is being described as “an authentic and humanistic portrait of one of the most enigmatic and misunderstood spiritual figures in history. Phoenix is set to play Jesus Christ, while Davis is directing from a script by Helen Edmundson and Philippa Goslett
The Oscar-nominated Ejiofor will next be seen in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, where he plays the character of Baron Mordo alongside Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme.
