Universal and Working Title have already had to replace their director on the planned live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, with Rebecca Thomas (Electrick Children) taking over from Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), and now they will need to find a new star.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Chloe Grace Moretz has revealed that she has pulled out of the film, along with all of her upcoming projects, as she looks to take a break from acting and focus instead on producing.
“I pulled the plug on all my movies because I want to reassess who I am and find myself within my roles again,” said Moretz. “I’m realizing that I can slow down.”
Universal’s Little Mermaid has been scripted by Richard Curtis (About Time), and is one of two live-action versions of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale in development, with Disney also working on an adaptation of its animated classic.
