There’s good news today for fans of pant-wettingly scary video games as Blumhouse has announced it’s set to make an adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s, with director Chris Columbus in the chair.
The director, who made Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter movies, has signed up to helm the adaptation of the beloved video game series.
Once upon a time, the rights for the movie were held over at Warner Bros, with Poltergeist director Gil Kenan slated to make the film.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of the new movie, which was also confirmed by the official Blumhouse Twitter account welcoming Columbus to the fold.
Since they first launched in 2014, the Five Nights at Freddy’s games have become cult hits.
The games are based around Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, in which animatronic characters go on killing sprees after hours.
Scott Cawthon, creator of the series, is set to produce the film adaptation alongside Jason Blum.
