Director Chris Columbus, who helmed Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, has revealed that he doesn’t like the idea of the Harry Potter franchise be rebooted or remade.
In an interview with Jake Hamilton, Columbus discussed how there is “no point” in redoing the Harry Potter franchise which also led into him revealing that he is also apprehensive for the upcoming Home Alone reboot for Disney+.
“I can’t answer the first… I don’t know. In this version of Hollywood that we live in, everybody is remaking everything, and rebooting everything,” Columbus said when asked if the films will ever be remade, and if they even should be remade. “I mean, there’s a Home Alone reboot coming out. What’s the point? The movie exists, let’s just live with the movie that existed. There’s no point in us remaking The Wizard of Oz, there’s no point in any of us remaking the classic films. Make something original, because we need more original material. So, no point.”
Although there are currently no plans to reboot or remake the Harry Potter series of films, his recent comments coincide with comments he made last year regarding the upcoming Home Alone reboot, to which he called “a waste of time.”
