Chris Evans may have inadvertently confirmed that a Black Widow solo movie is in the pipeline over at Marvel Studios. The Captain America actor was doing an interview with ET Canada when he was asked about what his thoughts were on the success of Black Panther. The actor gave his answer, and then, perhaps, elaborated more than he intended:
“There’s nothing [Marvel Studios] can’t do, man. And I’m sure it’s gonna have the exact same effect when Captain Marvel comes out, and then the Black Widow movie comes out. Marvel just has the winning recipe and they’re kind of one step ahead of everybody else.”
It was reported last month that Jac Schaeffer (The Shower) has been hired to pen the script for a Black Widow movie, but as yet we’d had no official confirmation from Marvel Studios.
With all of the secrecy over at Marvel, coupled with the insane amounts of exposure that come with being a part of it… it’s natural for actors to occasionally let things slip during interviews. After all, famous or not, they are only human. However, moments like these can also be deliberate to generate buzz. Was that the case here? Who knows. One thing is certain though: Marvel was not one step ahead when it come to a solo film featuring a female hero. That distinction goes to (most recently) Wonder Woman. Well, technically, that award goes to Elektra, but let’s not speak of that one.
