THR is reporting that Thor star Chris Hemsworth is set to portray wrestling icon Hulk Hogan in a biopic set up at Netflix, which is being directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover).
Phillips’ Joker screenwriter Scott Silver is set to pen the script for the as-yet-untitled movie with John Pollono (Stronger), and it is said that the film “will focus on [Hogan’s] rise and is described as an origin story of the Hulkster and Hulkamania.”
Hulk Hogan – real name Terry Bollea – was instrumental in wrestling’s meteoric rise in the 1980s, serving as the face of Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation as it rose from a regional wrestling promotional to a national and then global entertainment giant.
Phillips and Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born) are set to produce the film through their Joint Effort production banner along with Michael Sugar (Spotlight), while Hemsworth, Hogan and former WCW boss Eric Bischoff will serve as executive producers.
