After Jackie Chan confirmed talks were underway for Rush Hour 4 this past December, it was only a matter of time before his co-star Chris Tucker spoke about the project.
Although the actor didn’t dive into great detail, Tucker spoke about his eagerness to return to the Rush Hour world, giving fans a small preview of what’s to come in the action-comedy sequel.
While promoting his appearance in Ben Affleck’s Air, Tucker spoke to Audacy’s V-103 (an Atlanta radio station) and mentioned the Rush Hour sequel as part of his upcoming projects. “You’re going to see a lot of good stuff coming, but it’s going to be on a whole other level,” Tucker said.
He adds, “That’s what I like… I’m excited about that. It’s not going to be what you’ve normally seen… Rush Hour 4 that’s something I definitely will probably drop in there because I love working with Jackie, but I’ve got some new stuff that I think you’re really gonna like. I’m excited about it.”
A fourth Rush Hour movie has been in developmental hell for some time. Back in 2018, Tucker proclaimed, “It’s happening. This is gonna be the rush of all rushes. Jackie is ready, and we want to do this so that people don’t ever forget it.” The sequel never materialized at that point.
Now with Chan on board, a script actively in development, and Tucker’s drive to make it happen, Rush Hour 4 seems like more of a possibility than ever. Though, a change of director is obviously on the way. All three Rush Hour movies were directed by Brett Ratner, a filmmaker accused of sexual harassment and misconduct in the last few years. Given the nature of the industry right now, it would be best for a fresh new voice to come in and give the franchise some new energy.
