Deadline reports that Christopher Eccleston (Dodger) has joined the Disney+ film Young Woman and the Sea alongside Star Wars‘ Daisy Ridley.
Directed by Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Young Woman and the Sea focuses on the life of Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Ederle, the first woman who swam across the English Channel in 1926. The film is based on the book of the same name by Glenn Stout who chronicled Erdele’s young life up to her swim across the Channel.”
Erdele was an accomplished swimmer who participated in the Olympics prior to her swim across the Channel, winning a gold medal. Her achievements also include swimming 22 miles from New York’s Battery Park to Sandy Hook, New Jersey in a record setting win that was solidified for just over 80 years.
Also starring in the film alongside Ridley and Eccleston are Tilda Cobham-Hervey (Lone Wolf) and Stephen Graham (The Irishman).
Young Woman and the Sea is written by Rønning’s Pirates screenwriter Jeff Nathanson with Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman producing.
