A couple of weeks ago we brought you a rather dubious rumour / fan-casting for New Line Cinema’s long-gestating Mortal Kombat reboot, and now we’ve got another report which seems equally outlandish, although this one comes from the mouth of actor Christopher Lambert, who portrayed the thunder god Raiden in the 1995 original.
According to Lambert, the reboot isn’t actually a reboot at all, but rather a sequel to the first two movies, with the actor telling Loaded that: “They have a great idea for the third one. It will be very different. We are going to be travelling through time, but in a very special way. So imagine characters having a battle in the middle of London and then whoosh, you smash through a window and find yourself on the hood of a New York cab.”
Lambert also discussed why he opted against reprising the role for 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation: “I didn’t want to do it because I didn’t think the script was very good. I didn’t like it. I liked the first one.”
Are you excited about the prospect of the new Mortal Kombat being a sequel to the original films, or is a reboot a better idea? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
