Bad news for Chucky fans, as Variety has revealed that USA Network and Syfy have pulled the plug on the Child’s Play spinoff series, which has come to an end after three seasons.
“I’m heartbroken over the news that Chucky won’t be coming back for a fourth season, but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have,” said creator and showrunner Don Mancini. “I’d like to thank UCP/SYFY/Peacock/Eat the Cat, our awesome cast and Toronto-based crew (the best in the business), and finally, to our amazing fans, a big bloody hug. Your incredible #RenewChucky campaign really warmed Chucky’s cold heart. Chucky will return! He ALWAYS come back.”
The Chucky series premiered back in 2021 and has received positive reviews from critics and audiences, while its most recent third season was said to have been both USA and Syfy’s numer one series in the key 18-49 demo. The show serves as the eighth instalment in the Child’s Play franchise, taking place after the seven original films (reboot not included).
According to Variety’s report, there had been discussions with the powers that be at USA and Syfy about potentially concluding the series with an abbreviated final season or wrap-up TV film, although a deal never materialised. However, as Mancini states, Chucky certainly has a habit of coming back from the dead, so it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if we haven’t seen the last of the Brad Dourif-voiced killer Good Guy doll.
