Classic 2005 shoot ’em up Under Defeat coming to PC and consoles this February

January 23, 2025 by Andrew Newton

After a great deal of anticipation, Clear River Games has announced that the 2005 classic shoot ’em up Under Defeat will launch digitally on PC and consoles on 6th February with physical editions for the Playstation 5 and Nintendo Switch arriving on the same day.  This arcade classic puts players in charge of a heavily armed helicopter in a war-torn alternate history that’s sure to please fans of classics like Battle Squadron and Flying Shark.

Under Defeat is a vertical scrolling shoot ’em up taking place during a decades-long war between the Empire and the Federation.  With both sides becoming exhausted, in resources and manpower, a ceasefire date has been arranged .  Despite the anticipation of some reprise from the war and chaos, both sides continue to develop new weapons and send them out on to the battlefield, one such weapon of war is about to be unleashed.

Players will take control of one of four combat helicopters, equipped with weapons that can take out both air and ground targets, and head out on dangerous missions where allies fall amidst the fierce battles in the sky.

There will be three game modes available for players to tackle – New Order, New Order + and Arcade, with each having its own set of rules, different screen sizes and stage structures.  Players will also be able to practice their favourite stages and even record replay footage in the game’s Training Mode.  For those who like the thrill of competing against others, there’s also Online Rankings for a score attack challenge.

There’s also a new soundtrack set called ‘Boosted’, composed by Shinji Hosoe, the original composer of Under Defeat and other members of SuperSweep. But players can also play with the tracks of past releases of the game should that be their want.

With 3D graphics and intense combat gameplay, the upcoming Under Defeat looks set to be a must have for lovers of shoot ’em ups.  Look out for it arriving on PC and consoles on 6th February.
