Back in 1989, developer Rainbow Arts (developer of hits such as The Great Giana Sisters and misses like Grafitti Man) released the side-scrolling shoot ‘em up X-Out. The game received huge praise from the gaming magazines of the time and earned scores in the high 80s and 90s. Now, ININ and Ziggurat Interactive have announced that this beloved game will return later this year in X-Out: Resurfaced. Enjoy the new announcement trailer below…
Back in the day most shoot-em-ups featured high-tech’ aircraft skimming through the air, spaceships in outer space or the humble foot soldier using fancy weapons, but X-Out took the action beneath the waves of a strange and hostile ocean world. While fighting their way through a myriad of levels, players could call in at undersea shops and buy new ships or customise their special sub’ with an array of different weapons and satellites, providing they had collected sufficient money throughout the levels.
X-Out: Resurfaced promises to stay true to the original while bringing enhanced graphics, updated gameplay and introducing some modern gaming twists. Although more details on the game are limited at present, the fact they are staying loyal to the source means that there’s going to be much tickling of many people’s nostalgia bones once the game is released. Until more details on the new features become available, take a look at these new screenshots.
Look out for X-Out: Resurfaced arriving on Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo Switch and PC later this year.
