Back in February it was announced that Clint Eastwood is set to direct and star in The Mule, marking the Hollywood legend’s first on-screen appearance since 2012’s Trouble With the Curve, and now comes word that Eastwood’s American Sniper star Bradley Cooper is in talks to appear alongside him.
The Mule is based upon a New York Times Magazine article by Sam Dolnick and will see Eastwood playing Leo Sharp, an award-winning horticulturist and decorated WWII veteran who was busted for transporting $3 million worth of cocaine through Michigan for Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel at the ripe old age of 90. He was subsequently sentenced to three years imprisonment when his lawyer argued that his dementia had sent him down the wrong path.
Eastwood is also serving as producer on The Mule along with Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas, while Ruben Fleischer, David Bernad, and Todd Hoffman will executive produce.
Cooper is currently putting the finishing touches on his directorial debut A Star Is Born, and it was announced this past week that he is also set to direct and star in Bernstein, a biopic of celebrated composer Leonard Bernstein.
