Has Cloverfield 4 already finished filming?

January 30, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

Cloverfield 4 you say? But we haven’t even seen a third installment of a franchise we didn’t even really know was a franchise. If your head is hurting at the latest developments on a series of films which began with Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams’ found-footage monster mash in 2008, then you’re not alone.

10 Cloverfield Lane, formerly known as The Cellar, surprised audiences in 2016 by being really rather good, and also having a tenuous link to the original Cloverfield movie. We were then told that the perennially delayed The God Particle might be renamed Cloverfield Station, before further delays had it orbiting Netflix as a means to actually getting audiences to see it.

Now, as is the way with this tangled web of intrigue, /Film are reporting that Cloverfield 4 is already complete, all under the guise of a WWII thriller called Overlord. Here’s the  synopsis:

On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.

/Film say that they’ve had it confirmed by a source that “Overlord is indeed Cloverfield 4, and that the project has completed production”.

Is this franchise something that excites you, or do you think it’s simply marketing spin in order to associate unremarkable films with a brand in order to find a larger audience? As always, let us know what you think.

The Untitled Third Cloverfield Movie is being directed by Julis Onah (The Girl Is in Trouble) and reportedly follows the crew of “a space station who find themselves alone after a scientific experiment causes Earth to disappear. When a space shuttle appears, the space station crew must determine if those aboard are friend or foe.”

The film features a cast that includes David Oyelowo (Selma), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Concussion), John Krasinski (13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi), Elizabeth Debicki (The Night Manager), Daniel Bruhl (Captain America: Civil War), Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids) and Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).
