Colin Farrell might have recently revealed that his screen time in Matt Reeves forthcoming The Batman is very limited, but things might be about to change for his latex headed Oswald Cobblepot, with the news that he has reportedly been approached to reprise the role of The Penguin for a spinoff series at HBO Max.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that as Warner Bros. and DC set about restructuring their superhero cinematic universe, the streamer is in early development on a series centered on Batman villain the Penguin. They also reveal that no deal is done yet, and that HBO Max declined to comment.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Lauren LeFranc is attached to write the script, which will focus on Cobblepot’s rise through the Gotham City underworld to become the iconic villain, The Penguin.
Should this be given the green-light it would be the second HBO Max spin-off to come from The Batman, following the news that a Gotham City PD series had been commissioned earlier in the year. Confidence in the Robert Pattinson reboot must be high because Warners appear to be using it as a foundation for their future small-screen plans.
