Colin Firth has become the latest addition to the cast of Disney’s Mary Poppins sequel, with Variety reporting that the Oscar-winner has signed on to play William Weatherall Wilkins, president of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, in Mary Poppins Returns.
The sequel, which takes place 25 years after the original, will reunite Into the Woods director Rob Marshall with Emily Blunt, who is taking on the iconic role of Mary Poppins. She is joined in the cast by Meryl Streep (Into the Woods) as Mary’s cousin Topsy, Ben Whishaw (Spectre) as Michael Banks, Emily Mortimer (The Newsroom) as Jane Banks, and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) as a street lamplighter called Jack.
Mary Poppins Returns is set for release on December 25th, 2018.
