Given the apparent demise of his character Harry Hart in the first movie, it was somewhat surprising that Colin Firth was announced as returning for next year’s follow up to Kingsman: The Secret Service. At the moment, it’s unclear how he’ll be returning, and Firth wasn’t giving anything away when asked about Kingsman: The Golden Circle during an interview with CinemaBlend.
“I’m going to do everything I can to creatively deflect your question,” said Firth, who was promoting the release of his new film Bridget Jones’s Baby. “It’s no secret that I have some involvement with it, but I think it would be a pity to get too specific about what that is. I can tell you, yes, I’ve been on the set, and there is an extraordinary atmosphere where I think nothing is going to be obvious to anybody. I think Matthew Vaughn’s outrageousness and the way he likes to subvert people’s expectations, it’s very, very much alive. This is not a stretching out of the stuff from the first movie. It’s going to be a complete and utter… I’m optimistic that it’s going to be extraordinary, and utterly its own thing.”
Kingsman: The Golden Circle will reunite director Matthew Vaughn with stars Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Sophie Cookson and Edward Holcroft, while new additions to the cast include Channing Tatum (Foxcatcher), Halle Berry (Extant) and Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones), Jeff Bridges (The Little Prince), Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) and Elton John. The sequel is set for release on June 16th, 2017.
