As revealed by Deadline this past week, Edgar Wright has tapped Colman Domingo (Euphoria, Sing Sing) to host the titular gameshow at the centre of his upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel The Running Man.
Wright’s new take on The Running Man will see man of the moment Glen Powell (Anyone But You) leading the film as Ben Richards – portrayed previously by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 movie adaptation – who finds himself a contestant on a hit reality show where people are chased by murderous Hunters in an effort to win cash prizes.
Domingo will play the host of the hit reality show, memorably played by Richard Dawson in the 1987 film. However, unlike that movie, he’ll not be the primary antagonist this time around, with that honour falling to Josh Brolin (Dune: Part Two), who is playing the ruthless TV executive behind the show.
Alongside Glen Powell, Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin, The Running Man also stars Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding), Lee Pace (Foundation), Daniel Ezra (All American), Karl Glusman (Love), Jayme Lawson (The Batman), Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Emilia Jones (), William H. Macy (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), David Zayas (Dexter), and Sean Hayes (Will & Grace).
Filming is currently taking place in the UK ahead of a planned November 7th 2025 release.
