Andrew Newton reviews Judge Dredd: Luna-1…
In 2061, an international lunar treaty divided a million square miles of the moon’s surface between Mega-Cities One, Two and Texas City. Every six months one of these cities has to supply a Judge-Marshal to govern it… enter Judge Dredd! An environment every bit as deadly as the streets of the ‘Big Meg’, Judge-Marshal Dredd has his work cut out for him – especially when war breaks out during the first Lunar Olympics!
Judge Dredd is one of those characters that you love to bits but would never want policing your town. This is perhaps the same sentiments of those citizens living on Luna 1 when Dredd visits there to become the Judge Marshal for six months.
This compilation features the stories of Dredd’s tenure as Judge Marshall of the Luna 1 colony that spanned the progs of 2000AD from issue 42 to 58 and all excellently written by the Dredd legend that is John Wagner although in many of the stories he does go by the pseudonym John Howard. Even better, the art to these classic stories has been done with some of the most renowned artists of 2000AD, Brian Bolland, Mick McMahon and Ian Gibson.
I remember reading several of these stories when they were first published many moons ago and thoroughly enjoyed such classics as 22nd Century Futsie where Dredd shows a kinder side and the 4 parter titled Elvis that shows the dangers of technology going faulty.
This is a great compilation and Dredds time as Luna 1 Marshall consist of some great stories. If you have never read about Old Stone Face’s time on the Moon then this is a great opportunity.
