Comic Book Review – The Red Mother #6

July 8, 2020 by Calum Petrie

Calum Petrie reviews The Red Mother #6…

After the shocking event in issue #5, Daisy has decided to take leave of her home town and take a job in England to get away from the horrible events that have troubled her since the first issue. The change of scenery is a welcome distraction to our main character – not only are there new locations, but there are a lot of new faces to get to know as well.

Daisy has been in London now for three weeks and is settling into this new chapter of her life pretty well, as work has become her focus to help get past the dark, enigmatic and bizarre events that she left behind in New York.

As this intriguing tale has branched into its sixth issue, it really is a slow burner of a story. I know that is not everyone’s idea of suspense or creating tension, though I am finding the snippets of this horror/thriller themed comic a pleasure to read. Not only do I have spectacular art work to admire every few weeks, but I am finding the story of Daisy a compelling tale as a victim of unexplained events and unspeakable horrors.

The new characters might not have been fleshed out in too much detail as of yet, although I do imagine in the coming issues that we will find out more of what is peaking from behind the curtain. I also expect to find out if the paranormal entity that is pursuing Daisy is still around, and if they friend of foe?

This latest issue does feel more like a new arc of the story beginning, while a lot of questions from the previous arc are not even mentioned when things are getting wrapped up. The long term plot devices introduced early on are the investment the reader will have to pursue when keeping up to date with this story.

Rating: 7/10
