Back in March of this year it was rumoured that Eddie Murphy was working on a sequel to the classic 1988 comedy Coming to America, with Paramount Pictures subsequently confirming the report and revealing that original screenwriters Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield were on board to pen the film.
Well, Deadline now has an update on the progress, with the trade reporting that Jonathan Levine (Snatched, 50/50, The Night Before) has signed on to direct, while Kenya Barris (Black-ish, Girls Trip) will rewrite the script from Blaustein and Sheffield.
Apparently, Murphy is yet to finalise a deal to reprise his role as Prince Akeem but is expected to return. As yet, there’s no word as to whether any of the other cast members from the original – such as Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, John Amos and Eriq La Salle – are likely to be back.
