With a live-action feature film in development and slated for release in 2020, Hasbro is set to bring the classic toy line Micronauts to the small screen in 2019 with a brand new animated series, and thanks to Syfy Wire we’ve got a look at some early concept art, as well as an official synopsis for the show; take a look here…
When fate brings an unlikely team of alien space explorers to earth in pursuit of the evil Baron Karza, they make a shocking discovery—on our world they are the size of action figures! The Micronauts are small heroes in a big world but the stakes are higher than ever as their miniaturized size presents dangerous obstacles at every turn. Fortunately, they forge an alliance with teenager Cameron Ruck, who will join them in their pursuit of justice. Although the Micronauts are small in stature, their bravery and adventurous spirits remain larger than life.
The new animated series is being produced by Hasbro Studios, with the first batch of 26 episodes set to go into production next year. They will run for 22 minutes each, and are being targeted towards children aged 6-11.
Originally created by Japanese toy manufacturer Takara as the Microman line in 1974, Micronauts was brought to North America in 1976 by Mego Corporation. In 2009, Hasbro announced that it had picked up the license with plans for new toys and a live-action movie, which was originally being developed by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions. Earlier this month, Hasbro and Paramount announced that the movie is now set for release on October 16th 2020.
