Criterion has announced the upcoming release of Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films, a Blu-ray collector’s box set featuring all fifteen of the classic Showa period Godzilla movies from the 1954 original through to 1975’s Terror of Mechagodzilla.
Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films promises “a landmark set showcasing the technical wizardry, fantastical storytelling, and indomitable international appeal that established the most iconic giant monster the cinema has ever seen.”
The set will feature HD transfers of all fifteen movies, as well as Godzilla, King of the Monsters, the 1956 American version of the original film, along with a Japanese-release version of 1962’s King Kong vs. Godzilla.
Special features include audio commentaries from film historian David Kalat, a 1990 Directors Guild of Japan interview with Ishirō Honda, new and archival cast and crew interviews, and a deluxe hardcover book featuring essays, notes and illustrations.
Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films will be released in October.
