Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will star House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. Production on the film is expected to begin this fall once DC Studios head James Gunn has completed filming on Superman, which will hit theatres next July.
Gillespie most recently directed Dumb Money based on the Gamestop stock controversy that rocked Wall Street in 2021. His other credits include Cruella, Disney’s live-action prequel/reimagining of 101 Dalmatians villain Cruella de Vil, the biopic I, Tonya of former Olympic ice skater Tonya Harding, the 2011 Fright Night remake and more. He has also directed several episodes of various TV series lately, including Pam & Tommy and Mike.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is based pm the comic miniseries of the same name by writer Tom King and Bilquis Evely with Ana Nogueira adapting it into a screenplay. The series followed Supergirl on a cosmic journey as she and a young girl hunt the dangerous man who murdered the girl’s father across the galaxy while Kara comes to grips with her own trauma as one of the few Kryptonian survivors after her home planet’s destruction.
Gunn will produce with his DC Studios co-head Peter Safran with DC’s Chantel Nong executive producing.
