In the months and years following the release of Spectre in 2015, there was intense speculation over Daniel Craig’s future as James Bond, with numerous reports suggesting that the actor would be calling time on his role as 007 after four outings as Ian Fleming’s super spy (Craig’s comments that he’d rather “slash his wrists” than return certainly helped fuel said speculation).
Of course, we now know that isn’t the case, with Craig’s fifth – and Bond’s 25th – outing No Time To Die just a few short months away, and in an interview with Empire Magazine, the star has revealed why he ultimately decided to reprise the role for one final adventure:
“If [Spectre] had been it, the world would have carried on as normal, and I would have been absolutely fine,” said Craig. “But somehow it felt like we needed to finish something off. If I’d left it at Spectre, something at the back of my head would have been going, ‘I wish I’d done one more.’ I always had a kind of secret idea about the whole lot in my head, and where I wanted to take it. And Spectre wasn’t that. But this feels like it is.”
