As the iconic opening credits target threatens to position over Daniel Craig’s Bond for the final time, the actor has started to open up a little bit more about his experience in the role. This week saw a clip released of him giving an emotional farewell to the cast and crew on the set of No Time to Die, and now he has been talking to The Radio Times about the age-old debate surrounding a female Bond.
When asked about whether the role of Bond should be diversified now that his tenure has ended, Craig responded by saying “The answer to that is very simple. There should simply be better parts for women and actors of colour. Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?”
Much like Craig’s Bond it was to-the-point and concise, and echoed the sentiments of series Producer Barbara Broccoli, who told Variety in 2020 that: “He can be of any color, but he is male. I believe we should be creating new characters for women – strong female characters. I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that.”

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
