Daniel Craig’s James Bond replacement won’t be discussed until next year, says Barbara Broccoli

September 27, 2021 by Liam Waddington

With the long-awaited No Time to Die scheduled to release in UK cinemas this week, the film will be Daniel Craig’s fifth and final outing as the iconic British spy James Bond.

Now, in an interview on BBC Radio 4’s popular Today program (via Variety), James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have clarified that no discussions regarding Craig’s replacement will be happening until next year.

“Oh God no,” said Broccoli. “We’re not thinking about it at all. We want Daniel to have his time of celebration. Next year we’ll start thinking about the future.”

In the same interview, Broccoli and Wilson discussed how Amazon’s $8.45 billion acquisition of MGM, the parent company of Eon, will impact the future of the Bond franchise.

“We’ll keep going,” said Broccoli. “Next year it’ll be the 60th anniversary of the Bond films, so we’re looking forward to the new chapter, whatever it brings. We’re not quite sure at the moment. Right now, we just want to celebrate ‘No Time to Die’ and Daniel’s extraordinary achievement.”

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

No Time To Die stars Daniel Craig (James Bond), Ralph Fiennes (M), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny), Rory Kinnear (Tanner), Léa Seydoux (Madeleine Swann), Ben Whishaw (Q), Jeffrey Wright (Felix Leiter), and Christoph Waltz (Blofeld), while new additions include Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049), Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel), Billy Magnussen (Velvet Buzzsaw), Dali Benssalah (A Faithful Man) and David Dencik (Top of the Lake).

No Time to Die hits UK cinemas on September 30th and US theaters on October 8th.
