Danny Elfman will compose the score for Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

February 19, 2021 by Liam Waddington

Although Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino made his Marvel movie debut with the Scott Derrickson-directed Doctor Strange, it seems like the film’s upcoming Sam Raimi-directed sequel has changed its composer.

In an interview with Inverse, long-time Sam Raimi collaborator Danny Elfman has confirmed that he will be composing the score for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and has already started on some pre-work for the film.

“I am starting to do bits of pre-work for Doctor Strange 2 that Sam Raimi’s directing,” Elfman said. “Even though I don’t start it for some months, there’s bits of recorded music they need for the sets.”

Elfman and Raimi first worked together on the superhero film Darkman before Elfman composed the score for Raimi’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2. However, due to a conflict of opinions, Elfman exited Spider-Man 3 before reuniting with Raimi for Oz the Great and Powerful. Elfman’s other credits throughout his legendary career include 1989’s Batman, Batman Returns, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and the MCU’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
