Who could capture the enigma that is Elon Musk in a cinematic format? That’s the question that was posed when Hollywood began to cook up the upcoming biopic of the businessman and overall controversial figure. And they’ve seemingly landed on that answer with the man known for bringing us some of the darkest films of our days: Darren Aronofsky.
Initially reported by Puck News and confirmed by Variety, the filmmaker behind Requiem for a Dream and recent Oscar nominee The Whale is set to helm a biopic of Musk for A24.
The script will reportedly be based on Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography published in September. Isaacson’s work has been used for biopics before, as his Steve Jobs biography inspired Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs with Michael Fassbender. This project will mark Darren Aronofsky’s first venture into the world of biopics.
Variety notes “a heated competition” to option Isaacson’s book from studios and filmmakers, with the indie prestige powerhouse A24 ultimately winning the bidding war.
We will keep you posted on this film with updates on the hotly-anticipated casting of the lead role likely to break the internet…if Musk doesn’t buy that and break it beforehand.
