Disney and Lucasfilm kicked off their annual fan convention Star Wars Celebration in Japan in the early hours of this morning, showcasing footage from next year’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu movie as well as officially announcing that Ryan Gosling is heading to the galaxy, far away for a role in Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter.
However, Starfighter isn’t the only big reveal of the day, as it has also been announced that Lucasfilm CCO Dave Filoni will continue his animated tales with Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, a brand-new series which will see Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels’ Sam Witwer returning to voice the character of Darth Maul.
The official logline for Maul – Shadow Lord reads: “In a new series set after the events of the final season of The Clone Wars, Maul rises again to lead the underworld factions.”
While further details are being kept under wraps at present, fans in attendance at Celebration were shown a sizzle from the upcoming series which teased the involvement of Ahsoka’s Inquisitor Marrok as well as Maul’s new apprentice Darth Talon, a Twi’lek Sith Lord from Star Wars Legends (who was intended to be one of the primary villains alongside Maul in George Lucas’ original Sequel Trilogy plans).
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is currently in production and will premiere on Disney+ in 2026.
