Dave Bautista has commented on James Gunn’s firing from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, saying that he will always defend his friends.
While Hollywood has pretty much moved on from James Gunn being fired from Marvel over old his obscene tweets — Gunn himself now directing The Suicide Squad— the incident is notable for many reasons, including for those who came to the director’s defense.
One of those people was Drax actor Dave Bautista, who, while admitting that the tweets were “gross”, that there was no question of him not defending his friend.
Speaking in a recent interview with the Tampa Bay Times, the actor said that Gunn made some “gross … terrible jokes” for “shock value… But at the end of the day, the thing I know the most, is that they were jokes, and this harsh, rash decision to fire him empowered some horrible, horrible people.”
While Gunn was criticized by many people for his tweets, there were some individuals that certainly didn’t have the best intentions who went after Gunn and Bautista for defending him: “It was draining,” Bautista confessed. “But if I’m not the guy who defends my friends, who am I?”
