Dave Filoni discusses Star Wars Rebels finale and confirms surviving characters

March 6, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Star Wars Rebels has released its final ever episode and creator Dave Filoni has discussed what went down.

Finishing up with its fourth season, Star Wars Rebels told the story of a small group of Rebels and their fight against the Empire, taking place before the events of A New Hope.

Dave Filoni, the show’s creator, sat down with The Star Wars Show after Rebels made its curtain call, and confirmed to fans that both Ezra and Thrawn survived their wild and climatic jump to hyperspace and why the show ended as it did:

“I felt a lot about that… It’s one of those things that you go ‘oh boy I love the idea of an end credits scenes’ but as tempting as that is but I go ‘well if I cover that, then I want to do it right’ and I don’t want to commit to things right now because things might change. So I have a lot of theories about it and what I think happens and where they are. I’ll say this much, they’re not dead. Both of them survive both Ezra and Thrawn I would say survive it.”

And speaking on the same subject during a Q&A (via EW), Filoni added that the finale is planting seeds for future content: “I’ve always felt the best stories end and then other stories begin, and there’s no better way to take two of my favorite characters and have them ride off into the sunset, like I’ve seen so many cowboys over the years, or Indiana Jones. One thing ends and another begins, and the story continues. That’s a saga.”

If you’re said to see the end of Rebels, fear not – Filoni has said his next Star Wars project will be announced soon.
