The return and final ever season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been teased by Dave Filoni.
Dave Filoni, the creative force behind much of Star Wars’ animated projects, has become an integral part of Lucasfilm. He’s recently directed The Mandalorian and is now excited to bring back the much loved final season of The Clone Wars.
Season 7 will see the return of a project he started working on with George Lucas and with the first episode just days away from release, Filoni has teased its arrival to EW: “I tried to do things that honored what we had been doing on this series when I was working with George [Lucas]. At the same time, I knew this had to have a sense of completion.”
Filoni says that he is very excited to see these storylines come to life in the present day, as they were previously in development before the show was cancelled in 2013: “We have tools and capabilities that we did not have in the beginning of Clone Wars, just because animation’s come so far. There are many things that we can render with nuance and detail that we just couldn’t before.”
Filoni says he has tried to remember what Lucas told him were the pillars of Star Wars, “the struggle between selflessness and the darker path of selfishness, greed, and fear.”
“It’s really the backbone [of the Star Wars saga]. It’s that personal journey. [We saw that] with Luke Skywalker, and we’ve seen Rey going on this journey. But for me now with Ahsoka, she’s been the student Jedi the whole time, and she’s finally being challenged by what she will do with her knowledge and her training and her abilities when faced with the ultimate test — which is what you’ll see at the end of Clone Wars here.”
