As we approach the 75th Cannes Film Festival, expect plenty of announcements regarding new films being shopped up-and-down the croisette, one of which is the intriguingly titled The Beekeeper, which will see Suicide Squad‘s David Ayer directing Jason Statham in a “fast-paced action-thriller”.
Deadline report that the Miramax film will come from a spec script by Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, Salt) and that it will be a “fast-paced action-thriller, which is steeped in the mythology of beekeeping” and “follows a man’s personal journey of vengeance which takes on national stakes.”
Before he can tackle bees, Statham has to once again deal with a giant shark in Ben Wheatley’s Meg 2: The Trench, which is currently in production. The Beekeeper will see the action star team up with Miramax for the third time in recent memory, having completed Guy Ritchie one-two with 2021’s Wrath of Man and forthcoming spy romp Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre.
Ayer, whose CV boasts the likes of End of Watch, Fury and the $750M grossing Suicide Squad, is coming off the back of 2020’s Shia LaBeouf dud The Tax Collector.
